Here are today’s Grassroots-Grows-Capacity Action Steps:

  1. The next HWFC board meeting is tomorrow night, Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 6PM. It will be held in the Community Room of the Honest Weight Food Co-op, 100 Watervliet Ave., Albany, NY and begin promptly at 6:00 pm. Here is the meeting agenda.

It is vitally important that you attend! Don’t leave it to someone else; you need to be there and follow issues you are interested or involved in. Our co-op will only continue to stay strong & resilient if a large percentage of the 620 working, voting members and 65 shareholders who attended our historic emergency Special Membership Meeting on November 30th stay involved!

If you voted for any of our three new board members on November 30th, they need your support; showing up to board meetings is critical to that support.

The entire board can only function smoothly and well if it has the backing and support and involvement of membership: our co-op functions as a participatory democracy, which means YOU have to be there. So, please participate, your involvement is important to our future!

2. Spring Upcoming Board Meetings, save the dates:

3. Member-owner Ellen Falls has provided a URL to check up on upcoming meeting dates at HWFC here.

You can also post the URL into your own browser here:

Ellen says: “Please do get involved to the extent you are able. Volunteering for the smallest of tasks can be of inestimable value, and will truly make a difference.”

Thank you Ellen!

4. The January 24, 2016 Membership Meeting (and scheduled voting) has officially been cancelled. THE NEW MEETING DATE IS SUNDAY, JANUARY 31, 2016 at the FUUSA (the Unitarian Church at 405 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY); 5:30 pm dessert potluck, 6:00pm Membership Meeting.

All previously scheduled voting has been cancelled. There will be a financial overview of HWFC presented. There will also be an opportunity to meet with all the different committees of HWFC and learn about them and their various projects & goals, and, perhaps, make a commitment to join!

Watch for the official agenda here, when it is made public.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

Grassroots Action: One HWFC member-owner individual, family, and employee at a time …we can reach every HWFC member-owner if we ALL work it.
Build Capacity: If everybody does their little bit (or a bigger bit if they can), we build our capacity day-by-day.
Have faith: It simply works!
You are the PR: Be factual, be calm, don’t attack anyone personally, and please do be impassioned about saving our member-owned, locally-owned & controlled co-operative!

This is co-operative, in action!

Interesting and learned a lot. Nate’s really growing into his job. It’s a board meeting, though. Nate didn’t really have to listen to all these members in the meeting. Outside, sure. I really trust the board we have now and I feel that I don’t need to go to all the board meetings. It’s tiring when you have to go to work the next day! Let’s see if we can spread the feeling of trust and keep the good people going.

  1. Thanks, Laura! I update the meeting file with each change, so Google Drive annoyingly changes the link name with each update. Your best bet: I update the link after each change in the HWFC Member Forum. Look under topic Governance, This Month’s Meetings.

      1. As Ibecoeme more comfortable with Google Drive, I have found that by being careful to edit the original and making my backup copies fro it, the link will remain consistent. Thanks for your patience!

One note: The Forum has potentially many more readers for your posts. 375 are registered, although old members have never been culled. I would at minimum post a link to your own forum in there to attract maximum interest.

Interesting board meeting, to say the least! I heard a rumor that the “fearsome four” are going to run for the board again at the next opportunity. What a thought!

Jules, We need you at these board meetings! (I do understand travel is an issue…)

Can you come to the membership meeting on 1/31? Dessert potluck to tempt you!

I really hope they don’t try. We now have people working for us, including Saul Rigberg who know and understand the co-op and who are also great people and are professionals.

Chaz had invited me to join the Forum and, I believe, even become a moderator. I think I will start by posting a link to my next blogpost there. Thanks for the encouragement!

    1. Hi everyone. After three visits, I love the happy vibe that now permeates the Coop. I received another letter from the NYS DOL, because I had submitted a third FOIL request for DDs rumored letter to them … The NYS DOL letter stated after a diligent search there was no second letter found. In solidarity with our new/old Board leadership, and also assuming they might want to know there was no letter *received* by the NYS DOL, I gave it to Ned. Its possible that the Board paid a legal bill for work that was not completed … I am hopeful that we will have full disclosure from our Board about this most recent revelation. $257k in attorney fees you would think all contracted work was performed. Tunneling further and further down the rabbit hole we go…..
