Here are today’s Grassroots-Grows-Capacity Action Steps:
1. Tomorrow, Saturday, November 14, 2015, the HWFC board of directors is having an “Information Session with the Co-op’s Attorneys” from 10:30am – 12:00 noon at the Best Western, 200 Wolf Road, Albany.
Study member-owner & attorney Kate Doyle’s post called Critical Legal Information and the attached Talking Points, for a clear, concise explanation of Member-Owners’ rights in a cooperative corporation:
Please get there early! We are hearing that attendance will be high; we hope the board is intending on renting a larger room so that all may equally participate.
2. After Saturday’s presentation, please stay around to discuss the Member-Owner Labor Program and a Member-Owner driven HWFC!
3. Grassroots people, it’s important to celebrate …whoohooo…ye haaa… the victories! High-five each other and do a victory dance! Sing a song (see below)! We have not one, not two, but three victories today:
*We were more than successful at meeting the required number of signatures for eight (8) new petitions. In 14 hours, member-owner petitioners gathered more than the required 66 signatures, eight (8) different times! We beat the record of the 1st petition, from October 24th! Most signatures were gathered at HWFC; special thanks to the librarians over at SUNYA for setting up a petition (ya gotta love librarians!) Don’t have an exact tally yet, and petitioning will still take place at the co-op today. One step closer to our official announcement of the emergency Special Membership Meeting date.
Wasn’t it great seeing old and new faces and just shooting the breeze?
People from the google groups list showed up in spades, as did member-owner employees; people who heard about it from member-owners’ email blasts; shoppers; our new mailchimp list; or from this website. Awesome turnout, fellow member-owners!
Although everyone deserves thanks, special thanks get sent to Jessica Rae who was (initially) stationed on the sidewalk at the co-op’s entrance at 8am in the rain, stayed for 3-4 hours, went home, took a nap, and came back and stayed until 10PM! Jessica, you are our top trooper for the day! Golden clipboard to you!
*This was the 1st time member-owner petitioners were able to communicate directly with other member-owners on emergency Special Membership Meeting business – through an official HWFC channel.
*A miracle – I kid you not – a miracle occurred sometime between my post two-days ago, the GRC meeting that same night, and yesterday morning.
Yesterday, at 9am, Chris Colarusso was able to pull Jessica & her clipboard in from out of the rain by the road and they parked themselves at a table, inside the co-op, by Juice & Java, nice ‘n toasty & dry.
I honestly do not know what shook down, but suddenly there was no longer a requirement that we member-owners have to make an appointment – three days in advance, in writing to a member of the Leadership Team or staff – in order to talk to (petition) each other, onsite, at our co-operative. Temporary change …or permanent?
Dunno …so just celebrate the invisible, unknowable daily blessings the universe sends our way! Co-operatives rock! Hey, thank a fellow member-owner today and go sing The Ant Song with Frank Sinatra & Eddie Hodges: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaPTweZ2_fI
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
Grassroots Action: One HWFC member-owner individual, family, and employee at a time …we can reach every HWFC member-owner if we ALL work it
Build Capacity: If everybody does their little bit (or a bigger bit if they can),
we build our capacity day-by-day
Have faith: It simply works!
YOU are the PR: Be factual, be calm, don’t attack anyone personally, and please do be impassioned about saving our member-owned co-operative!
This is co-operative, in action!
