Welcome!  The member-owners of the Honest Weight Food Co-operative, Inc. in Albany, NY – who are petitioning for an emergency Special Membership Meeting – are grassroots kind of people. Not only because we want to be but because circumstances have forced our hand: we have no other way to reach all the other member-owner individuals, families and employees of our co-operative.

Every morning I’ve been sending out a Grassroots Action is Powerful! to our group.  You know, share vital info, direct actions, keep spirits up.

Well, today Grassroots Action is Powerful! goes public!  And we want to become a big grassroots group of HWFC member-owners & potential member-owners!  Thank you to our member-owner host team here at

So, help us spread the word.  Every morning over your coffee, green tea or kombucha, please read this post, pick an action …and immediately forward to others!

Here are today’s Grassroots-Grows-Capacity Action Steps:

1.  Yesterday, Times Union blogger Roger Green, at Information Without the Bun, posted an email written by HWFC member-owner Ken von Geldern.  Read what Ken has to say about things at our co-operative.
Thanks to both Ken and Roger for the media coverage!

2.  Re-read Kate Doyle’s post called Critical Legal Information and the attached Talking Points.  Kate is a member-owner (you may have bumped into her over at cheeses on Friday nights!) who is also an attorney:

3.  Why all the reading?  Because the HWFC board of directors is having an “Information Session with the Co-op’s Attorneys” on Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 10:30am – 12:00 noon at the Best Western, 200 Wolf Road, Albany.

The board continues to present their view that our member-owner labor program is illegal (it’s not) and that we have to end it (we don’t) because it’s a liability to our co-op (it isn’t).

Former Commissioner of the NYS Department of Labor John Sweeney seems to agree.  Go on over to YT (thanks to member-owner Paul Rosenberg!) and see what you think:

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.  Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

Grassroots Action:    One HWFC member-owner individual, family, and employee at a time  …we can reach each and every HWFC member-owner if we ALL work it
Build Capacity:        If everybody does their little bit (or a bigger bit if they can),  we build our capacity day-by-day
Have faith:               It simply works!
YOU are the PR:       Be factual, be calm, don’t attack anyone personally, and  please do be impassioned about saving our member-owned co-operative!

This is co-operative, in action!
